Friday, May 4th, 2001
Main Ingredient: Giant Eel
Cooking Style: Modern Japanese vs. Traditional Japanese
Iron Chef: Masahara Morimoto Challenger: Hiroichi Handa
First you take a basket full of big leaping eels, fight to catch one, nail the head to the cutting board,
and cut its guts out while it's still alive. Then the girls leave the room and I quit taking notes.
Sometimes they have some really disqusting stuff in these Battles.

Iron Chef: Chen Kenichi Challenger: Itoh Genichi
This was a rerun of the April 13th program.
"If you try to make me eat any more yogurt I'm just going to throw it all up OK?"

Main Ingredient: Peaches
Cooking Style: French
Iron Chef: Hiroyuki Sakai Challenger: Masanobu Watabi
The heart wrenching battle between the lonely chef and the invincible Sakai.
This was the battle that inspired the Peach Sorbet that we still love.

Cooking Style: Neo Japanese vs. Seaweed Expert
Iron Chef: Masaharu Morimoto Challenger: Takeshi Kajimoto
This was a rerun of April 20th.
I was hunting for seaweed, which is really hard to find in Cleveland.
The best I could do was a seaweed salad. Have you ever tried Vienna sausages
and seaweed salad with a little balsamic vinegar? You haven't missed anything.

Cooking Style: Szechwan vs. Guan Dong Chinese
Iron Chef: Chen Kenichi   Challenger: Okubo Takeshi
Poor Chen-san loses again, by one point!
My pitiful can of bean sprouts was no match for Iron Chef's Sprout Ensemble.
I mad a Bean Sprout and Cheese Omelet, Baked Bean Sprout Eggroll with Mushrooms,
and Bean Sprout Soup with Ham, Cabbage, and Green Onion

Main Ingredient: Carp
Cooking Style: Chinese vs. Thai
Iron Chef: Chen Kenichi Challenger: Kaoru Miyazawa
The chefs went to a lot of trouble to get rid of the taste of the carp.
I didn't have to worry, I had a can of Mackerel. Fish and rice was not a winner here.
