Jennifer, the morning shift leader, complained to Kelly, the assistant manager, that she was six hours
short on her check. She had worked 45 hours, but only was paid for 39. All of her overtime hours had
been cut off. Kelly said "Well, you smoke a lot, so I added in some breaks".
One of the ways that fast food managers get bonuses is by keeping labor costs low. One way to keep
costs down is to cheat people out of their time and money. This is illegal, but hard to prove in court.
Usually the employee just finds another job somewhere else.
